An 89-year-old Raleigh man accused of voter fraud said he was trying to prove a point by casting two ballots. Leland Duane Lewis voted in early voting on only the front of the ballot, then returned during regular voting and voted only the back of the ballot. Lewis said he told volunteers at the polling place what happened on Election Day, but he wasn’t charged with a crime until Wednesday. Lewis was released from the Wake County jail on Wednesday after posting a $10,000 bond. He could face up to 15 months in prison if convicted. Current election procedures should have prevented Lewis from voting the 2nd time, however the circumstances upon which it was allowed is still being investigated. You may read the full article here.
Welcome to Thursday’s Open Line!
This gentleman had an ID, so…….
Seems like to me he wasn’t the one committing the crime; it was the failure of the elections system. I applaud his gonads in proving his point. And he really didn’t vote twice but he could have.
the whole voting system needs to be revamped.
it’s based on the “honor system” when too many people have no “honor”.
it is wide open to fraud, as was proven by this gentleman. (who is a patriot imo)
if you use a debit card from a closed account..the system rejects it immediately.
the government could learn efficiency from the private sector.
