Members of the Vance-Granville Community College “Chi Beta Chi” chapter of the Phi Beta Lambda business student organization attended the state PBL Fall Leadership Development Conference in Greensboro, on November 11-12. The VGCC chapter brought home several recognitions and awards.
VGCC Business Administration instructor and chapter advisor LaTonya Steele accompanied the student members in attendance: chapter president Ruthie Davis of Warrenton, vice president Christopher Todd of Oxford, treasurer Diane Power of Oxford, reporter Kiwon Harding of Henderson, historian William Leman of Williamsboro, Jody Hastings of Townsville, Theresa Chiplis of Norlina, John Pendergrass of Henderson, and Dawud Montague of Henderson, along with Professional Division member Lonnie Brame.
The chapter was recognized for having the third-largest membership of any chapter in the central region of the state and for having the largest Professional Division membership of any chapter in the state. Professional Division members are established business professionals and educators.
VGCC also won the first-place trophy and President’s Award for the “Best Recruitment Material Display.”
VGCC also had a team participating in the NC PBL “Non-Trivia” Contest. The contest is conducted to encourage local chapter representatives to learn more about the state and national organizations. Chi Beta Chi was also named a “Gold Star” chapter of NC PBL for meeting initial reporting and participation goals. The conference included a variety of workshops and speakers on subjects related to financial responsibility, entrepreneurship, career development and communication skills.
Phi Beta Lambda is the national organization for college students who are preparing for a variety of careers in business. The Greek letters stand for the English words “Future Business Leaders,” and PBL is affiliated with the Future Business Leaders of America, an organization for high school students.
