Assult Rifles Confiscated in Arrest of Breaking and Entering Suspect


During the last two week members of the Criminal Investigations Division of the Vance County Sheriff’s Office and the Special Operations Division of the Henderson Police Department have been working closely together in the investigation of multiple breaking and enterings in the Vance and Franklin County area.

Due to these efforts various guns and property were recovered to include assault rifles and other long guns. This success is based on an anonymous tip received through Crime Stoppers.

On December 8th 2011, both organizations received information on the whereabouts of the suspect involved in this investigation. Members surrounded a residence at the corner of Hatch Street and Water Street in Henderson. The suspect, Michael Miles, 18, of 609 Orange Street exited the residence and fled on foot. A foot chase ensued and Mr. Miles was apprehended by members of both agencies near Eaton Street in Henderson.

Mr. Miles was arrested and charged with various charges that both the Henderson Police Department and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office had obtained on him. Mr. Miles was charged with felony breaking and entering, and larceny after a breaking and entering for the breaking and entering of 1211 Parham Street Henderson on August 24, 2011. He was charged with felony breaking and entering, and larceny after a breaking and entering for the breaking and entering of 211 Watson Drive, Henderson on September 22, 2011. He was also charged with felony breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering, and felony probation violation from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office. Mr. Miles received an $110,000 secured bond pending a court hearing on January 9, 2012.

The Franklin County charges were as a result from assistance received from members of the Henderson Police Department Special Operations Division.

The investigation is ongoing and further charges are expected by the Vance County Sheriff’s Office.
