Monday Open Line

President Obama calls on Congress to do what’s right for the American people by extending the payroll tax cut and confirming Richard Cordray to lead a new consumer-watchdog agency that will protect families from dishonest business practices.

Friday, Gov. Bev Perdue and First Gentleman Bob Eaves hosted the annual Christmas Tree Lighting at the State Capitol in Raleigh.  The festivities began at 5 p.m. with musical performances by the Raleigh Boychoir and Raleigh Concert Band.  The governor and first gentleman hung wreaths on the Capitol south doors to begin the official tree lighting ceremony.  After the tree lighting, Gov. Perdue read “Santa’s Noisy Christmas,” to children. Santa Claus then told the children stories.

The N.C. Christmas Tree was purchased from Peak Farms in Ashe County by The Downtown Clubs of Raleigh.

This evening, Henderson City Council has a meeting at City Hall, and the Board of Education has meeting at the Administrative Services building.  The full agenda packet is already up for for the City meeting, and we’ll hopefully have the full Education meeting agenda up later Monday.
