On Friday, February 24, 2012 at 10:47 P.M. officers with the Henderson Police Department responded to the Beacon Light Masonic Lodge, 1204 W. Andrews Avenue in Henderson in response to reports of gunfire. When officers arrived, they found Jerry Olandes Wright, 45, 302 Lincoln Avenue Henderson suffering from a gunshot wound.
The investigation into this matter is being conducted by the Henderson Police Department and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation. Anyone with information about this matter is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers at 252-492-1925. Rewards of up to 2,000.00 may be paid for information that leads to the arrest and or conviction of individuals involved in this matter.
Where are the so-called reverends/pastors that are always talking %#$* about the HPD? Why not spend a little more time teaching and so-called ‘preaching’ to the young black male population within the city b/c it seems like at least once or twice a month you see another black male that has been murdered. I’m sure you will try to see this comment as racist but in fact it is a REALIST comment b/c according to sources there was a party at Beacon Light Masonic Lodge before the gunplay started. Wonder who had the party and wonder if security was present? Ever heard of a metal detector? Let me guess what your excuse will be…………..”the people who were involved in this murder weren’t at the party but arrived with intention of committing a crime”!! LAME,LAME,LAME!! Even though this was an elderly man who was killed I would bet my last penny that the offender is not only another black male; but a young one at that. Only time will tell b/c as you know within the African American community they don’t do much talking to POLICE!! unless it’s too complain about being ‘wronged’!! Society is losing an entire generation of young black males b/c if you look at the statistics most murders in Vance County are a result of Black-on-Black Crime!!! Not racism……just realism!!!! My question is where are the deacons,pastors,preachers,reverends of the Black Churches in Vance County b/c the last time I checked there were numerous Churches that cater to the black community. Some are even holding services in Hotels notorious for Crime and others are in Strip Malls!!
And people wonder why the schools in Vance County are a joke? Here’s an interesting statistic, check the % of students that attend VCS who have a relative(dad,mom,uncle,cousin) who are currently incarcerated and you will see what types of ‘role models’ the young black students have!!
Many young people do not attend church so it is very hard for preacher to preach to them.A good idea would be for local preachers to come together and come up with a plan .Then implement it .

Prudence:Compared to the majority of the stories that involve murders in Vance County 45 would be considered elderly. Sorry if I offended you!!
Elmwood:Any man/woman ‘of the cloth’ would tell you that if they don’t come to you….you go to where they are located so that they can receive the MESSAGE! The problem with Vance County’s so-called pastors/preachers/reverends that stand up and SHOUT against there perceived injustices is that they don’t want to help the youth. They would rather sit back and blame it on other factors.
Upstanding members of the Black Community should be ashamed and downright MAD that this type of behavior has become the norm in Vance County so much that when people read about it or hear about it they don’t even think twice. Same ole’….same ole’!!! Personally I think Vance County needs some new faces/ideas on its governing bodies and not the same ole’ farts that don’t do %#$& for the average joe/jane!!

Code Red: If you can’t read the local paper then have someone read it to you. The facts are this: Out of the last 10 murders in Vance County 9 of them have been Black-on-Black!! Sure there are other races that commit murders in the USA but the facts don’t lie. People LIE!! Check the facts and statistics of Vance County’s Homicides and report back. Until then, why not do like everyone else who has their head in the sand…blame it on someone..just not the ones that need to be blamed. I trace our current lawless youth problem back to when adults gave up the right to discipline any child they deemed doing wrong. I’m old enough to remember the ‘village’ concept of raising children; it was a community effort. Now adults seem to fear the children and are afraid to speak up for right when needed. Discipline and punishment are two different matters and it is up to all adults to teach the difference.

Code Red: Like I said from my 1st post….Henderson and Vance County!! Not the entire USA!! Where are all the clergymen when it comes to helping the young,black juveniles? From what I have seen the only Church in Vance County that goes into the Black Community and picks up kids to get them to Church is Freedom Life Church of God. Why can’t the others do the same for the kids who don’t have a ride to Church? Here’s a question for you to ask one of the local council members who is also a Pastor; what does she do to get the young people from Flint Hill to come to Church? Her name is Brenda Peace-Jenkins. Call and ask her what she’s doing for the youth of the area!!

Of the past 30 reported murders in Henderson, only four are known exceptions to the rule of a black victim being killed by a black perpetrator, according to SBI and local police reports. Of the past 14 murder cases in which arrests were made, only one is an exception, according to charges filed in court.
