ACT Testing in High Schools on Tuesday

On Tuesday, March 6, all 11th graders in high schools in Vance County Schools will be required to take the ACT college entrance exam.

The test administration is required by the state this school year for the first time ever.

The ACT is a curriculum and standards based educational and career planning tool that assesses students’ academic readiness for college. In December 2011, the State Board of Education approved the ACT to become a part of North Carolina’s new accountability model for high schools that will be implemented statewide for the 2012-2013 school year.

Administrators and faculty members at the four high schools, Northern Vance, Southern Vance, Western Vance and Early College High School, are making special provisions in their schools to accommodate testing for all 11th graders during the school day. The testing will begin at approximately 8 a.m. on Tuesday and last for about four hours.

All other students in the schools will attend school that day on a normal schedule.
