Tuesday Open Line

First, if you haven’t already done so, I want you to stop reading and go vote.  Today is the last day.  I’ve made another post detailing how you can easily find your voting location.  Whatever your choice is, you need to go vote.  I’m not going to tell you how to vote.  Your church should not have told you how to vote, that’s illegal.  Your church, as the one I visit has done, may say that you need to go vote, but they can’t say what or who you should vote for.  Vote whats in your heart for the issues, and who you think is the best to fill a position.

As Americans live longer, the problems of financing their retirement and paying their medical bills continue to make headlines, especially in this election year.  But the growing number of healthy seniors also means opportunities.  Both the problems and opportunities are in the spotlight in May — it’s Older Americans Month.  There are just over 40 million people aged 65 and older in the U.S., 13 percent of the population.   By the year 2050, the number of elderly is projected to be 88.5 million.  About one-in-six seniors is still in the labor force, and close to one-in-four is a military veteran.  Eight-out-of-10 older Americans own their homes.  You can find these and more facts about America from the U.S. Census Bureau, online at www.census.gov.
