I see Vance County voted over 73% for the amendment. Still some sanity in the county. Statewide was over 61%. Guess we can’t all be wrong huh? Especially Dr. Billy Graham a man led by GOD!
Congrats to Gary Daeke for maintaining his position. He is by far the best city council member in Henderson. Also congrats to mayor O’Geary.
I say to the Church members of council woman Brenda Peace-Jenkins, please take up a LOVE OFFERING this Sunday so that she can pay the taxes on the 13+ properties that are listed in today’s Daily Dispatch as being delinquent. Since they were donated to the Church if I’m not mistaken the least she can do is make sure the taxes are paid. I don’t think you should be allowed to serve on a governing body if you owe back taxes!!!!!
I agree with Deception–how can a councilor represent TAXPAYERS when they don’t pay their own obligations.

Deception and prudence you have touched a chord that few are concerned. The State legislature is more concerned with who is married to whom than compelling those elected to pay their property taxes on time.
Have either of you attempted to mine this data to determine the total dollars not paid by the likes of Greater Little Zion Holiness Church? Or who owns this or that LLC? For example General Properties LLC, Pristine Housing LLC, and Westward Properties LLC are all headquartered at the same address based on the NC Secretary of State records. Or using the police and sheriff arrest reports search this data for matches on addresses?
Yes, on arrest reports there are several addresses that come up over and over–anyone can check thiis info. by going to vancecounty.com–go to tax link-and then address. Interesting reading.
I wonder if these are some of the same rental properties that were “donated” to Brenda’s Church by the Rogers’ boys a couple of years ago? I wonder who collects the rent on those properties? Is it the Church as it lists the Church as being delinquent on the taxes or is it Brenda? It says a lot when you look at the delinquent taxes in Vance County and you find only 1 Church and its Pastor is a city council member!!! She needs to get her own ‘house in order” before she can vote on any tax increase/decrease for any other citizens of Vance County and it should be made a LAW that if you are an elected official and you are delinquent on your taxes, you are automatically disqualified from office. That’s not being anything but fair to the taxpayers of the County!!! It’s a *%&# shame that this continues to be an issue for Vance County. First it was eddie…..now it’s brenda!!! People get your head out of the ground and remove these folks from office. How can you allow this to continue? As Mr. Lewis Edwards used to say,”You are getting….what you are willing to accept”!!

I guarantee you that some of those Fake Names are owned by some of them boys’ living over in the Country Club area. Deception, you were given the link to the State records showing the name of the owners for any of the business names listed. Instead of ranting take the time and look up the names post the factual information. Maybe it enough people did this some of that $1,426,727.79 in 2011 taxes due would be paid.
There was a time when newspapers would take on investigating those , who in my opinion, hid behind corporations. If nothing else, the embarassment would bring about some changes.

In my short twelve years experience in Henderson I’ve learned that those who have the wits to ask questions are largely ignored because they don’t ‘belong’; as if an outsider’s view of things doesn’t count. As for Lakernick, he was relieved of his position due to alleged ‘conflict of interest’ because he was the director of Downtown Development and his wife has a ballet school that might have benefitted from such development. So sad that the existing powers are so insecure they must resort to unfair tactics to ensure they are all powerful. I have been subjected to that kind of squeezing out on another level, but that is a story I won’t share for a good while. What goes round comes round, I always say and believe.
As for those in elected office who do not pay their taxes, there is no excuse. Yet, our basically uninformed voters continue to vote for these irresponsible citizens and unwittingly pay the price for their ignorance. Of course, too many of these voters go the way of their religious and color bias. Most of the voters who continue to keep irresponsible representatives in office don’t pay taxes, even on the food they purchase in the grocery stores; thanks to those of us who DO pay our taxes. A whole lot of these voters live in Section 8 housing, thanks to us who do pay taxes and rent or mortagages, and they are so undereducated that they live in fear of losing their free housing if they vote wrong. Good grief, they might not be able to lay around all day watching their flat screen TV’s or buy soda pop and TV dinners!
Yes, dear readers, I am totally discontent with our status quo. I have worked my entire life to receive less than those who have hardly worked a year of their life, if that. I pay for my medicare out of my minimal social security. When I work to make ends meet I pay into both SS and Medicare, despite my long life of low paid employment. I had a better income as a tradeswoman than as a skilled technological woman. I went back to college to learn what I needed for our technological age, only to earn less than I did as a tradeswoman. I stand in line at the grocery store with my small available cash for basic foods while the obese woman with her five kids presents her American Flag card to pay, tax free, for sodas, sweets, frozen entres and plentiful meats.
I know from years of experice in a Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry that food stamp recipients are the first in line for free extra food. I learned that the working poor get nothing. I learned that many mothers of many children had food stamps far exceeding reason did community service for shop-lifting food and believed they were underendowed and could justify their thievery because it wasn’t stealing from anyone except the big food corporations. Try as I did, they couldn’t comprehend that you and I were paying for their free food out of our pockets.
I don’t hold the chronic social service dependents solely responsible. That one (or ten) percent of people with a truly liveable income are totally oblivious of the struggle the working poor or shrinking middle class. Look at who drives those new, fancy SUVs; those on welfare and those who have it all. The rest of us drive unpretentious vehicles.
Yes, dear readers, I’m on a rant. Those baggy bottom boys and over exposed girls with those really precious looking little babies make me very angry. I am very angry at every one of us who do not speak up against the unacceptable, for fear we may be somehow threatened in our comfortable little lives. We are prisoners of our cowardice and those wild children know it and rub it in.
Opinionated? Indeed I am. Wishy washy? No. Shoot me in the street for telling you to pull up your pants or not walk in the middle of the road with your baby. At least I will go down standing my ground. I am not a soldier fighting a war in a far away country, though my son is. I am a mother fighting a war against all that makes my son’s life on the line for OUR freedom (and greed) a meaningless joke.

If that is indeed the case what about Mike Inscoe who has children who are profiting from the apartements that are above some of the businesses downtown? Wonder how much influence he had on that happening behind closed doors? Bottom line is that if you are an elected official: PAY YO’ #### TAXES whether it be on your CHURCH HOUSES or your own house. Get your “HOUSE” in order before you tell others that they have to pay higher tax rate,etc.
Copper Rain–I am so sorry you are at this point in your feeling of this area. Nothing you have posted is inaccurate. Too bad those elected don’t listen. The gravy train is too hard to resist –both for those making money from the government through rentals as well as those who make no apologies for living off the dole–and keep having children. They are laughing up their sleeves–but this attitude is killing the area.

Was it for the same thing as David Ruggles was involved in recently? Haven’t heard much about that “INCIDENT” lately have you? Here’s a catch-phrase for Henderson: If you got kin…..you are guaranteed to be IN…whether it be the country club…jobs…..etc. One good thing is that some of that OLD $$$ is getting up there in age and I wonder if they have offspring that are willing to do things the same way as the OLD FARTS that are doing it now? Only time will tell….All I can say about the voters of Henderson at this time is that if that champion lady got almost 15-20% of votes for the city council after the Weed/Seed Fiasco it speaks volumes of the intellect of the citizens of Henderson. Must have been “edumacated” in the Vance Co. Schools?
