Two Local High Schools Ranked by U.S. News and World Report


According to the U.S. News and World Report magazine’s website (www.usnews.com), Northern Vance and Southern Vance high schools rank among the top 73 high schools in North Carolina, based on criteria used by the magazine to review almost 22,000 high schools in 49 states (Nebraska not included).

According to the website, the two local high schools are “bronze” designees in the rankings with gold as best, silver as second best and bronze as third best in the ranking categories.

A total of 596 high schools in North Carolina were considered for recognition.

Criteria include:

  • How well the school prepares students for college
  • Proficiency in Algebra I
  • Proficiency in English 1
  • Availability of advanced placement courses for students
