Congresswoman Renee Ellmers: Memorial Day

Memorial Day is a time when all of us come together as a nation to remember the men and women of past present and future who fought for the freedoms we cherish today. Our nation owes a debt of gratitude that is impossible to express and incalculable to fulfill. But as we gather with our friends and family to mark the unofficial beginning of the summer season, we should all pause to reflect on the sacrifices of our forefathers while thanking the men and women of our military for their service. May God bless you, our troops, and continue to bless our great nation.

This week we celebrated National Small Business Week.  As a member of the Small Business Committee and Chairwoman of the Subcommittee on Healthcare and Technology, I have come to learn of the many challenges facing our job creators throughout the Second District. In response to many of their concerns, I have worked to pass legislation that cuts regulation and promotes job creation. You can track much of that legislation on this page of my website.

In this newsletter you will  find a new video produced by the women of the House GOP. In it we describe the ways we are working for you.

Best wishes for a safe and restful Memorial Day weekend,

Memorial Day

On Memorial Day, we reflect on the generations of heroes who fought and died for the freedoms we enjoy today. I have enormous respect and appreciation for the selfless bravery and sacrifice of the men and women of our military. I was honored recently to participate in a memorial to their sacrifice at Arlington National Cemetary.

Last weekend, I traveled to Afghanistan as part of a congressional delegation to survey the situation on the ground and meet with our troops in the war zone. I was impressed by the discipline and courage of our brave men and women in combat and thankful for the opportunity to visit our troops and meet with Afghan officials for briefings on the latest progress taking place. Above all, it gives me great joy to have had the privilege to meet with soldiers from Fort Bragg and convey to them our deepest appreciation for the work they are doing on behalf of freedom for our country.

As we celebrate Memorial Day this weekend, we must take time to thank and remember the young men and women who came before us and fought for the same mission that our troops carry on today. We can never repay or even comprehend the sacrifices they have made and the lives lost in order to protect millions of their fellow citizens at home. Let us take the time to reflect on the families and loved ones they left behind who share in their honor.

National Small Business Week

Here in the House, we recently passed the Small Business Tax Cut Act of 2012 which will provide much-needed relief for our job creators. This summer, we will vote on legislation to cut Washington red tape and give our nation’s small businesses further support and much-needed certainty. I will continue to work to find common sense solutions to allow small businesses struggling in this economy to grow and create jobs.
