Representative Michael H. Wray’s Raleigh Report

The Governor’s Office has done some additional analysis of the House education budget. They conclude that the money available to K-12 schools last year through state funding and the EduJobs program was $7.72 billion. The current House budget is $7.69 billion with no EduJobs money now available. The governor’s proposed budget would have given public schools $8.01 billion.

To say that this budget increases the funding for education, as budget supporters argue, is false. The schools will have $30 million less and at best will be at the same underfunded level they endured last year. The Senate budget may make additional reductions.
I have attached a presentation from the governor’s office and a video she put together about the issue.

Thank you for your interest in state government. In the meantime, please contact me if I can be of help or you have any questions.
