United Way of Vance County To Hold Community Celebration, Launch New Online Resource

The United Way is rolling out a new online resource called GET CONNECTED, and will be sponsoring a Community Kick-Off event on Thursday, August 2nd to raise community awareness of this tool.

The event will be held in the parking lot of Ruby Tuesday, who will be donating a portion of their proceeds that day to the United Way.  The event, which will last from 5pm-8pm, will feature live music, a bouncy castle and slide sponsored by Character Antics, and treats for the kids.  There will also be tents where members of the community can interact with the United Way agencies and learn how to create Get Connected profiles.

GET CONNECTED is designed to help to connect the local non-profit agencies to the community it serves.  It will be available to access through the United Way website, www.unitedwayvance.org, or by going to getconnected.unitedwayvance.org.  Get Connected has a social networking interface, allowing members of the community to create a profile, become “fans” of agencies, and view those agency’s needs, including in-kind donations and volunteers, and upcoming events.

The following is a list of participating organizations/agencies, with the number expected to grow as the site becomes more established:

Area Christians Together in Service (ACTS), Addiction Recovery Center for Men/Women, Citizens Against Domestic Violence, FGV Smart Start, Girl Scouts, Juvenile Crime Prevention Council, Legal Aid of NC, Life Line Outreach, Parenting Taskforce, Rebuilding Hope, Sisters Transcending, Achieving, and Reaching Success (STARS), The Salvation Army, Warren County Senior Center, Warren County Youth Services Bureau, Infinite Possibilities, NC Cooperative Extension of Vance County, Miracle League of Franklin County, The Boys and Girls Club
