Vance County Crime Rates Improve, Still Highest in State
Thursday the North Carolina Department of Justice released the 2011 crime rate reports for North Carolina. Overall, reports of crime statewide fell by 0.9 percent in 2011, making it North Carolina’s lowest crime rate since 1977, Attorney General Roy Cooper said. The statewide violent crime rate dropped by 5.2 percent during the year. Patrice Brown of Henderson, a graduate of Vance-Granville Community College’s Human Services Technology program, is celebrating milestones this summer. She recently opened her own mental health agency, and she is about to graduate with a master’s degree. Brown credits her education at VGCC with starting her down the path toward these successes.
