Lunch & Learn: Collaborating for Change, Providers Parents and Community


September is National Recovery Month. PBH Solutions (formerly Five County Mental Health Authority) is sponsoring a Lunch & Learn event on September 11th, 2012 from 11:30am to 1:00pm at Golden Corral in Henderson, NC.

Guest Speaker: Phil Mooring, Executive Director of Families in Action.

For: Providers and agencies who collaborate with parents and the community-at-large to help parents face the challenge of keeping their children safe, healthy and drug free.

  • Learn why prevention research and conventional wisdom support parent involvement as a best practice
  • Learn simple and practical strategies for increasing parent-centered involvement
  • You will be introduced to the Parent Leader model as one strategy for increasing parent-centered involvement and expanding the community’s capacity to prevent underage drinking and illicit drug use

Phil Mooring, a Licensed Clinical Additions Specialist and Certified Substance Abuse Prevention Con-sultant, is Executive Director of Families in Action, a nonprofit substance abuse prevention organiza-tion based in Wilson, NC. He is a member of the NC Commission for Mental Health, Developmental Dis-abilities and Substance Abuse Services and a member of the NC Substance Abuse Professional Practice Board. Prior to his current position, Mooring served for ten years as CEO of the Walter B. Jones Alcohol and Drug Abuse Treatment Center, Greenville, NC. He has served as president of Addiction Profession-als of North Carolina, president of the NC Foundation for Alcohol and Drug Studies, and is the immedi-ate past president of the NC Substance Abuse Prevention Providers Association.
