$3.9 Million in Road Resurfacing Work set for Granville County in 2013

RALEIGH — A contract worth close to $3.9 million has been awarded by the N.C. Department of Transportation to S.T. Wooten Corp. of Wilson to mill and resurface 35.7 miles over 15 secondary roads in Granville County.

In addition to improving 7.2 miles of Enon Road between U.S. 158 and Culbreth Road, west of Oxford, sections of the following 14 roads will be resurfaced:

In Oxford:

  • Southeast Industry Drive;
  • East Industry Drive; and
  • Knotts Grove Road.

In Butner:

  • Old Oxford Highway;
  • West C Street;
  • Butner Central Avenue;
  • Central Avenue;
  • 12th Street;
  • West G Street; and
  • H Street.

In the county:

  • Culbreth Road;
  • Moriah Road;
  • Hawley School Road; and
  • Grassy Creek Virgilina Road.

Resurfacing these sections of roadway will extend the lifespan of the pavement, while also improving safety and providing a smoother ride for motorists.

Work can begin as early as March 25, 2013, with all work except for Moriah Road done by May 1, 2013, and the project finalized by Aug. 23, 2013.

 This is one of 22 contracts totaling $67.1 million awarded by Conti in November for highway and bridge projects across North Carolina. NCDOT awarded the contracts to the lowest bidders, as required by state law. The bids received on the projects awarded came in about 6.2 percent, or $4.5 million, below NCDOT estimates.

Since Gov. Bev Perdue took office in January of 2009, NCDOT has awarded 749 highway contracts totaling $5.1 billion to ensure that all North Carolinians have access to jobs and educational opportunities. Gov. Perdue continues to support immediate jobs in the construction sector and the goal of ensuring that our transportation network facilitates access to jobs, education and healthcare for the future.
