Spring Lighthouse Season Opens With a New NC Tower to Climb
RALEIGH, N.C. – North Carolina’s prime lighthouse-climbing season begins April 19 with the historic Bodie Island Lighthouse opening for regular tours for the first time. The newly restored lighthouse, its magnificent first-order Fresnel lens cleaned down to the shine, becomes the sixth along the state’s 320-mile coastline to allow visitors a top-of-the-tower view. Building Products Manufacturer to Create 145 Jobs in Columbus County, N.C.

Gov. Pat McCrory announced plans Monday to pursue a “Partnership for Prosperity,” an effort to change the way economic growth is fostered in North Carolina. New legislation will create a separate nonprofit corporation to center economic development functions for the state. Vance-Granville Community College has announced that 306 students earned Dean’s List honors for the fall semester that ended in December 2012. Students in the Advanced Digital Media class at Southern Vance High School have produced a video that is one of 17 finalists in the Fox50 Lip Dub Contest through the Fox50 television station in Raleigh. Student groups produce their own video, which features students singing to a specific track of music. The video also includes signs, props and more. Vance-Granville Community College is expanding its Pharmacy Technology program by adding a new option for students to earn an Associate in Applied Science degree in the field, providing graduates with the skills necessary to qualify for more employment opportunities.
