Vance-Granville Community College will offer the opportunity to earn the entire curriculum certificate in Manicuring/Nail Technology in just one semester this fall. This certificate program will be available exclusively at VGCC’s Warren County Campus in Warrenton.

Under this new scheduling arrangement, students will take the first of two required courses, Manicure/Nail Technology I (COS-121), weekday mornings from Aug. 19 through Oct. 17 in Building 3 on Warren Campus. Then, they will immediately begin the second course, Manicure/Nail Technology II (COS-222), weekday mornings from Oct. 18 through the end of the semester on Dec. 16.

The curriculum provides competency-based knowledge, scientific/artistic principles and hands-on fundamentals associated with the nail technology industry, and is taught in a simulated salon environment which enables students to develop manipulative skills. Students will practice various techniques of nail technology, hand and arm massage, and recognition of nail diseases and disorders. Topics of the courses will include safety, sanitation, bacteriology, product knowledge, salesmanship, manicures, pedicures, massage, decorating, and artificial applications.

After they complete the 12-credit-hour certificate, students will be prepared to take the North Carolina Board of Cosmetic Art Examiners nail technician/manicurist exam and, upon passing, be licensed for employment in beauty and nail salons, as a platform artist, and in related businesses.

In addition to the Manicuring certificate, the VGCC Cosmetology department offers diploma and certificate programs in Cosmetology and Cosmetology Instructor.

New students can apply for admission now, online or on any VGCC campus. Orientation and advising of new students will take place throughout the summer. Registration for fall classes is currently ongoing and will end on Aug. 14. For more information, contact Tomeka Moss at (252) 738-3357.
