Hargrove named chair of Public Services at VGCC

Steven Hargrove of Henderson, a Criminal Justice Technology instructor at Vance-Granville Community College, was recently promoted to lead a department that includes several of the college’s curriculum programs that train students to serve the public. As Public Services department chair, he now oversees the VGCC Culinary Arts, Cosmetology and Paralegal Technology programs while also serving as head of the Criminal Justice program.

Hargrove has been a VGCC instructor since 2002 and previously worked as a residential coordinator for VGFW Area Mental Health.

A native of Granville County, Hargrove graduated from J.F. Webb High School. He earned a B.S. in Criminal Justice at North Carolina Central University, where he was inducted into the Golden Key National Honor Society. He later returned to NCCU to complete a master’s degree in Sociology, including additional coursework in Criminal Justice. Active in the community, Hargrove serves as pastor of White Rock Missionary Baptist Church in the Berea community of Oxford and has directed local choirs, including the Vance-Granville Community Choir, a group of college students, faculty and staff
