Bonner Bridge closure, advisory

With the temporary closure of the Bonner Bridge – which spans the Oregon Inlet, connecting Hatteras Island to the mainland – the Outer Banks VB has created the Bonner Bridge Advisory webpage to address questions and concerns for potential visitors. While the bridge is closed, ferries are providing alternate transportation to and from Hatteras Island and the N.C. Dept. of Transportation has brought in additional ferries and revised the ferry schedule for the area. Traffic along N.C. State Highway 12 is open from Rodanthe south to Hatteras Village and Ocracoke. N.C. Highway 12 is also open north of the Bonner Bridge from Bodie Island to Corolla.

Access to the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge may be limited due to the bridge closure depending on where the NCDOT sets up its road block. Until the Bonner Bridge reopens, all regularly scheduled programs are canceled, and the Pea Island Visitor Center is closed. However, the National Wildlife Refuges Visitor Center on Roanoke Island remains on its regular schedule for visitors
