Vance-Granville Community Band kicks off holiday season with free concert


christmasconcert2013The Vance-Granville Community Band presented its sixth annual free Holiday Concert on Tuesday, Dec. 10 in the Civic Center on the college’s Main Campus in Vance County. The program was entitled “Christmas Around the World,” and it featured a variety of music representing holiday traditions from several different countries, along with American favorites.

VGCC music instructor Ivory Brock (pictured above, right) is the band’s primary conductor. Associate conductor Brian Miller, the band director at Louisburg High School, also directed the band on some selections during the concert. When not conducting, Miller played trombone in the band. Raynah Adams of Henderson served as master of ceremonies and narrator for the concert.

The Vance-Granville Community Band includes musicians from throughout the region, as well as VGCC students and high school students. New members of all ages are welcome to join the ensemble. For more information, contact Ivory Brock at brocki@vgcc.edu or (252) 738-3222.
