ABC TV pilot ‘Secrets & Lies’ begins filming

StarNews Media reports on ABC’s newest murder mystery pilot “Secrets & Lies” begins production in the Wilmington area this Friday. The series will follow Ben Garner (Ryan Phillippe), a family man and house painter whose life is upended when he stumbles across the body of the 4-year-old boy who lives across the street and quickly becomes the prime suspect in the boy’s murder.

“When we were trying to decide where to shoot this, one of the most important things for us was that we had to pick an American city that felt very safe, very bucolic and a place that would be rattled by something like the murder of a child,” Kaplan said. “We came to Wilmington because Wilmington to us is an amazing place – it is peaceful and calm, and a big strong sense of community. A place that feels pure in many ways.”

Once filming is completed around March 19, the series will stop production while ABC reviews the pilot and determines whether it wants to move forward with the series.

The N.C. Film Office was heavily involved in bringing the pilot to the state and has a long-standing relationship with ABC and its parent company, Disney, who credited the state’s film incentive, strong film infrastructure and talented crew base for selecting to film in North Carolina.
