NCAA March Madness returns to Raleigh

This week, the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship – aka March Madness – returns to Raleigh. The NCAA tournament is at PNC Arena this weekend, with second rounds games on Friday, followed by third round games on Sunday. This marks the third time PNC Arena has hosted the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship (2004 and 2008). In 2008, the NCAA Championship in Raleigh generated $5.5 million in direct visitor spending and 12,500 hotel room-nights, according to the Greater Raleigh CVB. A new entertainment feature in Raleigh this year will be the Hoops and Hops FanFest, taking place outside PNC Arena before the games and between sessions. Hoops and Hops features beverages for all ages, food trucks, music, a family activity zone, and a large-screen TV showing tournament games from other sites.
