In this week’s address, the President provided an update on the work his Administration has done to strengthen the economy and expand opportunity for hardworking Americans in this Year of Action. While Republicans in Congress are setting records in obstruction, the President is making progress for the American people and has taken more than 20 executive actions since January.
The President vowed to continue taking action on his own wherever possible, but underscored that much more progress could be made if Republicans in Congress were less interested in stacking the deck in favor of those at the top, and more interested in expanding opportunity for all.
This week the President wrapped up a four country trip to Asia before honoring the Teachers of the Year and speaking on the minimum wage, while the VP announced a series of actions to help address sexual assault.
What an absolute joke of leadership we have in the White House. As I read this “toot my own horn” review as to what our country leader has done for the week, all I can think about are the 245 female children kidnapped in Nigeria that we chose to DO NOTHING ABOUT. Sadly, there is no profit to be made in assisting that true horror so our leader has no interest.
Sorry, Mr. O., can’t let that go by unchallenged. The ability of America to project power has been constrained by the two military adventure, one warranted, the other not, initiated by President Obama’s predecessor. If there were some strategic or important national interest at stake here, I am sure action would have been taken. The era when America was the policeman of the world is long gone, closed in the jungles of South-east Asia.
It is funny to think about Republican apoplexy that would have occurred had Obama started an excursion into Central Africa.
Actually, we can respectfully agree to disagree. The ability of America to “project power” still is intact and ready, controlled by the present head of our wonderful military. That leadership role falls on the shoulders of our “current” president. He has full capability to “act” or “not act”. He chose to “not act”. Simple as that, my point should hit home. This can’t be pointed backwards to any prior president. Believe you me, I am well aware of the mistakes and shortcomings of our previous presidents. However, you can’t boatload all of Obama’s bad decisions and mistakes on his predecessor, lol. Good try though. As for this being not a “National Interest” issue, I beg to differ. Allowing terrorism to go unchecked in weakened areas of the world only allows terrorism to grow and prosper and strengthen. As witnessed from 9/11, these terrorism cells have to be policed from countries that have manpower to police them. If not, you have occurences like 9/11. We all can agree that we don’t want another catastrophe on our American soil like 9/11.
Our leaders decided to do nothing about Benghazi and our interests were an issue. Our people there were left to the mob. To do nothing about the kidnapped girls doesn’t seem far removed from the pattern our leadership is setting. The terrorists are baiting us in the worst possible ways. Our soldiers return to a country to discover another war against unemployment and growing crime. When we choose battles over resources like oil and not for human preservation, we will go the way of all fossils. Right or wrong, the people voted for their leadership.
Well, maybe you’re right, Mr O. Under further reflection, maybe we should do something, but only as part of an international effort and with Republican support. To be sure they’d take any opportunity to attack the administration.
Mr Opinionated and Zep great posts. Even Publius can agree that this is an atrocity that has nothing to do with Bush that deserves US intervention. If not now, when?
Now, 300 more are dead. I guess it will NOW fit into our country’s “national interest”, lol. What a sad example of the idiocy of terrorist cells in the world today.
