Maybe the BofE needs to talk to the coaches/parents/etc. about how to act during a high school event. The news reported that a soccer match between NVHS and Northwood had to be forfeited b/c of something along the lines of unsportsmanship like actions. When the referee was looking for an administrator there weren’t any around and thus he had to deal w/the coach. Needless to say….w/19 minutes left in the game it was forfeited and Northwood won 2-1. What message is it sending to the student athletes when their games are cut short b/c the administration at NVHS didn’t think it was important to attend the sporting event? APATHY all the way across the Board….Guess it has become the “norm” for VCS!!!! Shame on all the administrators who should have attended the game and it wouldn’t have gotten to the point where the student athletes weren’t afforded the opportuntity to continue the game!!! SHAME!!!! SHAME!!!! SHAME!!!!

    Gosh, Decept, who cares?

  3. mingo October 16, 2014 at 9:19 am

Agree with Deception, there was a time when principals and asst. principals ( read Creasman as well as Crawford) were at Northern soccer matches (and other sports events). My understanding about what occurred at the soccer match from someone who was there that the unsportsmanlike conduct was someone in the stands, not on the field. You have to feel really bad for the team and coaches who were involved in a close match, to have it end early due to this type of behavior outside of their control.

Who is Vance County Education Committee ? Will they try to improve education in Vance County ?

  5. prudence October 16, 2014 at 2:39 pm

With all the principals, assistant principals and A.Ds the stands should be filled with them–, Who does show ? THE TEACHERS that’s who. Parents and fellow students–and grandparents.

Get off your backsides “Administration, Superintendent, and Boards and support these students who represent the best and brightest and involved students~

I have to agree with Mingo. I am fortunate and unfortunate at the same time. I had a child go through nvhs during the Creasman/Crawford years and one at the school now. In my OPINION, it is night and day difference. Both of my children were active in extra-curricular and I do not know of a single instance that either Creasman/Crawford were not in attendance. Normally, it was both of them. The current administration, again in my opinion, lacks a vision for the school. They are reactive as opposed to being active. This is not only in sports but in the classrooms as well. In my opinion, and the opinion of my child, the kids run the school and the admins sit back and don’t care. This may be way off but it is my perception and that of my child’s. as a community we should stand up and demand Better for our kids. This is their future. The entire admin team needs to be replaced at nvhs. This does not mean move them to another school so it can be subpar as well. Where is the school board? Who makes sure the rules and policies are being followed? I thought the new AD job description stated that the AD should be at all games? If not certainly one of the 4 admins should have been there!

Northern Vance has fallen on hard times. It’s all about the lack of knowledgeable leadership. Look at all the school options popping up in Vance and Granville counties and realize that we are not coming close to serving children appropriately in the public schools. Ten years from now I cannot even imagine what Vance County schools will be doing, other than the same old same old. I think Deception, or whoever, quoted appropriately when referring to Forrest Gump.

Do the people of Vance county care about education and its importance ?

  9. prudence October 17, 2014 at 10:49 am

  10. Deception October 19, 2014 at 8:29 am

Elmwood…….a vast majority of its citizens only want to know directions to Dept. Of Social Services! I think the administration @ NVHS should be called over to Graham Ave. & have 2 answer ?’s from Ronald Gregory as to why they weren’t @ the game.
Is that the leadership you want leading your children’s school? SHAME on ALL of THEM!!!!!

Regarding the November 14th meeting of two adversaries the Vance County’s Education Committee and Vance County School’s Education Committee.

The room will seat eleven at the big peoples table with five or six chairs along the wall for underlings, press, and the public. Scheduling committee meetings during normal business hours by design limits the public’s attendance and observation assuring the county manager and commissioners’ total control of the public’s knowledge. A lunch time meetings allows the county staff, commissioners, and school officials attending to enjoy a taxpayer provided lunch. The county manager’s customary practice is to hold committee meetings within the required two business day notice why the thirty day notice of the meeting?

It says alot about a school district when you look at the Board of Education Members and none of them have advanced degrees. Some only have a high school diploma. How can you expect them to “lead” anything when they didn’t think Higher Learning was worth the investment?
I spoke to a parent who has a child who plays on NVHS Soccer Team today and she was very upset with the lack of leadership at NVHS. Why do the citizens of Vance con’t to accept less than any other area when it comes to leadership? Is the county that far gone that it can’t be fixed?
As far as advanced degrees go……how many Superintendents in the State of NC don’t have a Doctoral Degree? I know one…….that would be Vance County School Superintendent.

  13. Dagny October 22, 2014 at 10:23 am

The School Board is totally weak, Gregory runs them instead of them running Gregory. I have also been at NVHS under Creaseman and again recently, what a huge difference. It is almost scary now having to face going back in there. I feel sorry for the students. The School Board needs to wake up and look at what the Charter schools are doing so successfully instead of resenting them. Graham Avenue is threatened and has a “strong dislike” for Charter schools. It is all about the money but if you doubled the budget, betting graduation rates wouldn’t change. The rates will change when the Charter schools start graduating children. Graham Ave looks at the poverty ridden children in the public school system with the soft bigotry eyes of low expectations.

  14. Deception October 22, 2014 at 2:41 pm

The Board is supposed to be the BOSS of Gregory….not the other way around. Keep electing people who aren’t qualified & Vance County Schools will con’t to be looked upon negatively by anyone with 1/2 a brain!!!!
Why didn’t the lady w/cushy job as Public Information Officer comment on the NVHS Soccer situation? Wouldn’t that fall under her job description? No wonder why parents of kids in Vance County are looking @ other options!!!

  15. elmwood October 22, 2014 at 3:51 pm

I wonder what kind of accountability has been put on the Supr. by the Board of Education. .How do we know he is doing even an average job ,or does the Board think he is doing an outstanding job ?

  16. Deception October 22, 2014 at 8:30 pm

Elmwood….look @ the graduation rate, test scores, & teacher turnover & judge for yourself what kind of job he’s doing. Look at the entire Board of Education & you will only occasionally get a statement or comment from Ed Wilson. I wonder when was the last time any of the members actually went into the schools to see the overcrowding & lackluster buildings? I am pretty sure some of them have never set foot inside some of the schools. Every once in awhile you will catch a member @ a school for a photo-op.
Lots of people have said that certain companies refused to locate in Vance Co. after looking @ the school system…….keep voting them into office!!!
