A technological breakthrough that has led to remarkable changes in American and global society occurred 45 years ago today … or yesterday, depending on your point of reference. While Americans in the Eastern and Central time zones entered October 30, 1969, it was around 10:30 p.m. Pacific time on October 29 that the first connection was made on what would become the Internet. The first two computers linked were at the University of California, Los Angeles and the Stanford Research Institute — part of a Defense Department program called ARPANET. Within a year, 10 sites were connected, and in 1972, the now-universal “@” symbol was selected to facilitate email. Today, over three quarters of U.S. households have computers, and about 72 percent have Internet access at home. Profile America is in its17th year as a public service of the U.S. Census Bureau.

Okay all u HiH bloggers who probably have VOTED more on my HiH posts than u have in your entire lives……don’t 4get next Tuesday 2 VOTE in Vance Co. Seems as if I read that y’all got a big ole Sheriff’s race. I saw the entire page ad Peter White put in the Dispatch. Who says he doesn’t do anything? U see his list of accomplishments?
I have just seen the article on the dispatch (online version) where VCS is complaining about equal pay for Assistant Principals. I think this is noble to want Asst. Principals to get paid on the correct and accurate scale. However, I think the Dispatch should post the current salaries of the top administrators in VCS. I think the public would see that several (if not all) top administrators (superintendent, Asst. Superintendent, Director of HR) make well over the state salary for their positions. Then, look at the salaries of principals in the county and you will probably see that they make well over the state salary scale. So, it is fine for the Board of Education to want fair pay for Assistant Principals but at the same time, there is money available to raise salaries or hire additional teachers, but that money is being used to supplement the salaries of the top administrators in the county. I just think the whole story needs to be told…But what do I know. .
Amen
You have to give Vance County credit……here you have a Superintendent w/o nothing more than a Master’s Degree and he wants more $$$ for the Asst. Principals. What about the people within the schools that do all the WORK…meaning the Teachers/Custodians/Cafeteria Staff/Office Staff?
When is the last time you visited a school and actually witnessed a Principal or Asst. Principal actually doing “work”? They do more shaking hands and talking on the phone than anything else. How much does Ronald Gregory make per year? I guarantee it’s more than the average income for others in the education field w/same qualifications and/or degrees. Give me a minute and I will post Gregory’s salary………stay tuned!
Gotta love the internet!!!
Mr. Ronald Gregory….superintendent of Vance County Schools makes $137,676 annually. When you break the #’s down to salary per student…he makes $20.10 per student enrolled in Vance County w/student population of 6,848.
Compare it to the salary of Wake County’s Superintendent which happens to be the largest school system in the entire state they make $1.83 per student enrolled.
Compare it to the salary of Durham’s Superintendent who makes $6.74 per student enrolled in that district.
Tell me…….does the superintendent of Vance County Schools deserve $137,676 per year? Or better yet….does he deserve $20.10 for every student that attends any school in Vance County? If you have children in VCS are you like many parents and having to buy tissue, hand sanitizer, and other school supplies that should be provided? Look at the schools drop-out rate….test scores….teacher turnover rate….teacher morale….etc!!! Even those of you who graduated from Vance County Schools can’t argue that amount of $$$ can be justified.
For the skeptical HiH bloggers…..the report is from August 26,2013 and probably is pretty accurate as far as the figures go.
