Vance County’s Planning/Environmental Committee (Commissioners Garrison, Taylor and Wilder) is scheduled to meet Wednesday, March 25 at 3:00 p.m. in the Administrative Conference Room. The purpose is to discuss solar farms.
Note: All commissioners are invited to attend.
The Vance County Planning/Environmental Committee is meeting to address the expediential increase in solar farms in the county. Commissioners’ support of solar farms as a growth industry was at its zenith when the commissioners approved a zoning change allowing the ‘farms’. As long as the ‘farms’ were built in “those” neighborhoods there is no issue; now, that the ‘farms’ are being built in “their” neighborhood there is a concern. The commissioners are considering a zoning change for solar ‘farms’ ostensibly to increase county revenue and maybe discourage the building of more such ‘farms’. Should be an interesting committee meeting especially since the City Council is struggling with the issue of solar farms in the ETJ.
