On Thursday, June 18, 2015, members of the Henderson Police Department Special Operations Unit executed a search warrant at 419 College Street in Henderson. As a result of the search, officers located a quantity of marijuana.
Kahlil Hicks, 19, 410 Julia Street, Henderson was charged with possession with the intent to manufacture, sell/deliver marijuana, manufacturing marijuana, and possession of marijuana drug paraphernalia.
Hicks was released from custody after posting a 10,000.00 secured bond. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled in Vance County District Court on June 25, 2015.
It seems that the Bail Bondsmen/Bail Agents in Henderson and Vance County are doing really well financially with the weekly(or so it seems) drug arrest and subsequent release on bond. Out of curiosity I looked @ the number of Bail Bondsmen in the yellow pages of the phone book(does that tell my age?) and if the # of businesses in Vance County are an indication then it must be a good business venture.
I had a discussion about 10-15 years ago with a member of a governing agency about the “War on Drugs”. After talking to him for awhile it was pretty clear that the USA really doesn’t want a drug free society. He went on to speak about the # of people who are making a living off of the “War on Drugs”. Not in any particular order he mentioned Local Police, District Attorney’s, Correctional Officers, Bail Bondsmen and Judges. Most of which have employees in the Local, State and Federal levels especially District Attorney’s, Correctional Officers and Judges. That doesn’t even count the secretaries at most of these locations. If you look at the total # of people who are employed as a direct result of drugs then his argument made a lot of sense. So ask yourself the next time(probably in less than a week) you see someone arrested in connection with drugs…..does the USA really want the drugs gone? The gentleman with whom I was having this discussion made me look at the “War on Drugs” in a totally different manner. So…….what do you think? Or are you like most Americans who seem to be of the opinion that “Who cares?” as long as it doesn’t interfere or disrupt their lives or members of their families?
I’m sure cops would rather roust potheads than violent offenders.
Sadly in Henderson, they are usually one in the same. The marijuana trade fuels the violence and vice versa. If you look at many of our murder suspects on the public offender database, many have been charged many times with marijuana related crimes. To say there is no correlation between the two is simply ignoring the facts.
“The marijuana trade fuels the violence….” Could it be that the association is because of the stupidity of making pot illegal? Duh!
No it’s the fact that people think they can do what ever they want and not have to follow the law..
