The Campus Police Department at Vance-Granville Community College recently provided professional development for security officers, including its own. VGCC hosted a two-day, 18-hour North Carolina Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (NCACLEA) Campus Security Training Course for the region.

The course was designed for non-sworn security officers working in a college campus environment. The following topics were taught by certified law enforcement instructors from the North Carolina Central University and Duke University campus police departments: rules and responsibilities of patrol; emergency response; traffic control and direction; incident documentation; communication techniques; and customer service and professionalism.

Among those taking part in the training were security officers from Campbell University, Elon University, Fayetteville State University, UNC Wilmington, UNC Pembroke, Wingate University, St. Augustine’s College, North Carolina Central University, and VGCC.

The VGCC security staff members who completed the course included Otis Pettaway and Junice Reid, both of whom work at the college’s Main Campus, Sitina Watkins of the Franklin County Campus and Helena Jenkins of the Warren County Campus.
