Congresswoman Renee Ellmers: Ensuring Women’s Access to Quality Healthcare

Video of the Week:

On Friday, I had the opportunity to speak on the House floor about the need to defund Planned Parenthood and my amendment, which will redirect this funding to other healthcare facilities to ensure that women retain access to important health services. Weekly Update:
This week I led several efforts to protect both women and the unborn. On Wednesday, I proposed an amendment that was adopted into the legislation defunding Planned Parenthood. My amendment redirects $235 million dollars, which is currently allocated to Planned Parenthood, to public health centers in order to ensure that women still retain access to medical services. Click here to read more about this amendment I proposed.

The addition of my amendment is a necessary step to ensuring that women and the unborn retain access to important and life-saving preventative health services. The health centers that funding is redirected toward represent a better alternative to Planned Parenthood. Not only are Federally Qualified Health Centers more accessible and more transparent but they provide a comprehensive array of preventative health services including mammograms, primary care, pediatric services, dental services and immunizations. E&C Health Subcommittee Hearing

During a hearing of the Energy & Commerce Subcommittee on Health this week, I discussed how my draft legislation will help bolster the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act of 2003.This hearing was particularly pertinent given the national discussion on Planned Parenthood.

We heard testimony on the issue of protecting infants and ending taxpayer funding for abortion providers who violate the law. Click here to learn more about this hearing.

Lifting the Ban on Crude Oil
The U.S. is the global leader in oil and gas production, and we have the resources here at home to be an energy superpower. This week I voted within the Energy & Commerce Committee to remove the crude oil export ban to help cement this reality. Lifting the ban would reduce domestic gas prices for American families and create approximately one million jobs here at home.

This is a no brainer. If we’re going to lift sanctions on Iran’s ability to export oil, we’d be remiss not to do the same here at home. Let’s lower prices for families when they are at the pump. Let’s assist our allies, like Israel, in meeting their energy needs so that they are less likely to rely on aggressive nations like Russia. I appreciate the leadership of Chairman Barton on this issue and look forward to bringing America’s energy policy into the 21st century.

Snapshots from the District

Monday night I was in Lee County speaking at the Sanford Growth Alliance Dinner about the work I am doing in Washington on a variety of issues including regulation, health care and broadband.

? In the photo above, Sanford Growth Alliance CEO Joy Thrash presented a lovely piece of local pottery.  I can’t wait to find a spot for this in my office as a reminder of home.

The photo above is of an Apache flyover during the U.S. Air Force’s 68th Birthday Celebration in Raleigh this week.

A representative of my office attended the ceremony celebrating the U.S. Air Force’s 68th Birthday at the N.C. National Guard Headquarters in Raleigh on Friday.
