Five Schools Recognized by Vance County Public School Foundation


PSF Awards for SchoolsThe Vance County Public School Foundation recognized five schools in the Vance County Public School System for their students’ outstanding academic growth during the October 12 meeting of the Vance County Board of Education.
Mary Jo Wilson, a member of the foundation’s Board of Directors, and Archie Taylor, president of the foundation’s Board of Directors, led the recognitions.
Those schools recognized with plaques as a “School of the Year” for 2014-2015 by the foundation were Clarke Elementary School, first-place award and a $1,000 cash prize; New Hope Elementary School, second-place award and a $500 cash prize; Pinkston Street Elementary School, third-place award and a $250 cash prize; Eaton-Johnson Middle School with the middle school award and a $1,000 prize; and Vance County Early College High School with the high school award and a $1,000 prize.
Accepting the awards on behalf of their schools were principals Crystal Richardson for Clarke, Dr. Harold Thompson for New Hope, Heddie Somerville for Pinkston Street, Dr. Brad Jones for Eaton-Johnson, and Michael Bullard for Early College. Farm Bureau Donation to PSFWilson and Taylor also recognized the outstanding support of the Vance County Farm Bureau, which made a donation of $4,500 in grant monies to fund the “School of the Year” awards. Thomas Shaw and Pete Burgess, both of the Vance County Farm Bureau, attended the meeting on behalf of their organization.
