NCDOT Begins Work Next Week on the Triangle Expressway

RALEIGH –The N.C. Department of Transportation will begin work next week to repair pavement settlement issues on the Triangle Expressway at two locations. The first location is on northbound N.C. 540 just before Exit 56A (to northbound U.S. 1), and the second location is on northbound N.C. 540 between mile markers 54.2 and 54.4, near Apex.

Crews will repair excessive settlement of the Expressway around the pipes that cross under those sections of road.

Initially crews will work between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Monday through Thursday, Nov. 9-13, to address the issue at Exit 56A. For the safety of the workers, repairs will require the closure of the shoulder and one to two travel lanes at that location. Drivers will notice a work zone at the top of the ramp, but the ramp will remain open.

The following week, the same work will take place between mile markers 54.2 and 54.4. There will be similar lane closures associated with the work.

Motorists should use caution while traveling in the area, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit. Message boards will be in place to alert drivers of the work.
