The Vance-Granville Community Band started rehearsals again on Monday, Jan. 11, but it is not too late for musicians to join the group, according to Carl Cantaluppi of Butner, clarinet player and music librarian for the ensemble.

Cantaluppi said that band members are preparing for their spring season with great enthusiasm, and are scheduled to play more concerts this year at several local venues.

Rehearsals are held at the Vance-Granville Community College Civic Center, on the Main Campus in Henderson, at Exit 209 on Interstate 85 (Poplar Creek Road).

“We are always looking for new members to enhance our band and to give people a chance to play a wide variety of music,” Cantaluppi said. “If you’ve always wanted to take your instrument out of the closet and start playing again, the band welcomes you. We look forward to having a great 2016 season with members from North Carolina and southern Virginia.”

Since it was first formed in 2008, the all-volunteer community band has included VGCC students, local high school students, educators, and interested citizens from all four counties of the college’s service area (Vance, Granville, Warren and Franklin) and beyond. VGCC music instructor Ivory Brock directs the band.

“I would like to personally welcome all returning members and new members for the Spring 2016 season,” Brock said. “Membership is open to all. We meet each Monday from 7 until 8:50 p.m.”
