Congresswoman Renee Ellmers: Breaking Ground

h numerous constituents including members of the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition’s North Carolina Advisory Council, employees of Lehigh Hanson’s Gardner rock quarry, and members of the American Federation of Government Employees.

In an effort to reach as many constituents as possible, I also conducted a Facebook Q & A session this week and answered questions that constituents submitted via the social media platform. This was a great experience and I look forward to being able to do this again soon!

Lastly, this Friday was the deadline to enter the Congressional Art Competition. I want to thank all of the students, parents, and art teachers who participated. We received so many amazing pieces from such talented students — it will be difficult to choose just one!

As always, if you need assistance with a federal agency or have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact my Washington, Dunn or Asheboro offices.

Novo Nordisk Groundbreaking

It was great being at the groundbreaking for Novo Nordisk Pharmaceutical Industry’s $1.8 billion facility in Clayton along with Governor Pat McCrory, fellow members of NC delegation Senator Richard Burr and Rep. David Rouzer, and other state and local officials.

This new facility, which will add 700 new jobs, will be a great boon to the region and the state.

A virtual tour of the new facility via tablet was available at the groundbreaking ceremony!
Rock Quarry Tour

On Thursday I visited Lehigh Hanson’s Gardner rock quarry, located in Bunnlevel. During the tour, I received an overview of their aggregates business by regional and site leaders, and heard positive feedback on long-term transportation funding, called the “FAST Act,” which I helped to pass. This legislation provides much-needed certainty for the mine via a reliable formula for federal funding of local infrastructure projects in and around Harnett County and Fort Bragg.

The Gardner Rock Quarry employs 21 people and supplies aggregates for construction projects including roads and highways across North Carolina.

During the tour I learned that a significant amount of aggregates
from Gardner’s mine are used at Fort Bragg for upgrades to their roads, living
quarters and runways for aircraft.

Many thanks to Scott Dickson, Vice President and General Manager for Hanson Aggregates, and all the employees for their hospitality!

Answering Your Questions

I answered constituent questions in a Facebook Q&A on Monday.  Thanks to those who participated. I look forward to doing this again soon!

Meeting With Constituents

I met with members of the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition’s North Carolina Advisory Council this week in my Dunn office and discussed the importance of development and diplomacy to U.S. national security.

On Friday I met with the American Federation of Government Employees to discuss issues with Fort Bragg fire fighters.
