Teachers in Vance County Schools attended a conference designed to train beginning educators April 15-17, at the Crystal Coast Civic Center in Morehead City.
The conference, entitled “Lighting the Way for Beginning Teachers,” was sponsored by the Collaborative to Support Initially Licensed Professionals.
The keynote speakers were N.C. Sen. Erica Smith-Ingram, representing District 3, and N.C. Principal of the Year Steve Lassiter. Both shared their experiences as educators, and they encouraged the teachers to take advantage of opportunities offered to continue to grow professionally.  They also reminded the teachers that they are not just teachers, but notable educators who make a difference in the  lives of children.
Laura Richardson, a faculty member of Western Vance High School, presented a session on “Battling the Bulge: Motivating Students & Teachers Through Physical Activity Strategies for the Academic Classroom.” The weekend was filled with professional development, networking and collaborating.
