Reminder of New School Entry at Six Pilot Schools in Vance County

Vance County Schools Honoring Academic Success Event
Vance County Schools hosted its first “Honoring Academic Success” event on the evening of Tuesday, May 10, for students who are among the top 10 percent of graduates in the Class of 2016 from the four local high schools. Two VGCC campuses to host Mini-Medical School summer camps
High school students from throughout the region are invited to learn about health sciences and careers in medicine by participating in the 2016 “Mini-Medical School” Summer Camp, conducted by the Wake Area Health Education Center (AHEC) in partnership with Vance-Granville Community College. The intensive, week-long day camp is being offered twice: June 13-17, at VGCC’s South Campus, located between Butner and Creedmoor, and July 11-15, at VGCC’s Franklin County Campus, just outside Louisburg. Vance County Schools Bus Drivers Honored
The top three finishers in the annual Vance County Schools’ Bus Roadeo competition on April 25, were honored by the school system and the Vance County Board of Education Monday night at the board’s meeting. Bostic went on to compete in the district Bus Roadeo held in Raleigh on May 5, and finished sixth in that event. He will compete in the N.C. Bus Roadeo on May 12, at the N.C. State Fairgrounds.
VGCC Culinary students excel at SkillsUSA competition
Vance-Granville Community College students recently earned two first-place awards and a second place in Culinary Arts competitions at the 51st annual SkillsUSA North Carolina State Leadership and Skills Conference. The college’s chapter of SkillsUSA also received recognition with a Top Ten Membership Award. Students and faculty attended the conference in Greensboro on April 19-21. Donald and Maggie Anthony of Roanoke Rapids, came to Northern Vance High School on May 5 to meet with members of the Vikings baseball team and offer them a face-to-face special thank you. Attorney General Roy Cooper: Phony Tax Collectors Keep Calling
The deadline to file your income taxes has passed, but scammers posing as tax collectors keep calling. North Carolina consumers are reporting dozens of calls claiming to come from IRS or US Treasury officials who demand immediate payment. The calls include a recorded message that says you owe taxes and threatens a lawsuit or arrest if you don’t pay right away.
