Congresswoman Renee Ellmers: Signed, Sealed, Delivered

Photo of the Week

I toured Harnett County Head Start facilities in Dunn and Lillington with County Commissioner Jim Burgin Thursday afternoon.  I enjoyed meeting with administrators, teachers and, most of all, some of the Head Start students. While touring the facilities I was able to talk with the county inspector and an engineer overseeing an environmental study regarding the state of the buildings and the needed remediation to deal with issues like asbestos and lead paint.

Weekly Update

I had an opportunity on Wednesday to spend some time at the UPS facility in Raleigh.  I was able to meet with UPS staff, don the UPS uniform and participate in a ‘ride along’ with a driver. My day at the facility included morning stretches, a tour of the facility and I even got to deliver a few packages in downtown Raleigh! It was a really great experience to see firsthand how the world’s largest package delivery company operates.

Most recently, I have had conversations with a few constituents about the Zika virus and what Congress is doing to stop it. In fact, just this past week, another baby was born in the U.S. who was infected with the Zika virus.

Due to the continued threat of this virus, I am supporting H.R. 897, this legislation will remove duplicative government regulations that are in the way and will allow local governments to intercede and prevent an outbreak before it’s too late. We’ve seen the health risks that the Zika virus poses, and as a healthcare professional, I’m proud to support legislation that will empower local governments while helping to prevent a public health crisis.

Snapshots from the Week

I enjoyed touring Seqirus in Holly Springs this week and was honored to accept the Congressional Biosecurity Champion Award in recognition of my commitment to biosecurity issues in Congress. Pictured with me are (left to right) Phyllis Frosst, Chris McDonald, Dave Sehgal and Martina Scionti.

On Wednesday, I met with members of the Wake Forest Olive Garden team. Having worked in a restaurant, we were able to discuss important aspects of the job and how to improve the work and growth of the food service industry.

This photo was taken during my UPS ride along in downtown Raleigh this week. What a fun experience!

These photos are from the 82nd Airborne Division All-American Week Memorial Ceremony which a representative of my office attended. A highlight of the ceremony was the unveiling of a new memorial which honors those killed during combat.
