Congresswoman Renee Ellmers: Honoring Those Who Serve

Photo of the Week

The young men and women from ?the Second District who earned military academy appointments worked countless hours over the past four years for this distinction. It was my pleasure to honor them with a reception in my Dunn office last weekend.

Weekly Update
It was a pleasure to spend some time last weekend with the impressive young men and women from ?the Second District who received military academy appointments. My Dunn District Office hosted a reception in their honor to show them, and their families, how proud we are of their achievements.

I wish them all the best as they begin service to our country in our nation’s military academies. Scroll down to see some photos from the reception. Click here to view additional photos of the appointees and their families.

Also this week, we celebrated National Seersucker Day in Washington. I hope you’ll look at the end of the newsletter to check out our guest for the day to see who I high-fived.

Academy Reception

I believe that this major commitment in the lives of these young people deserves to be celebrated; and that is just what we did.  I enjoyed spending time with each of the families who were able to attend.

It was great to have such a packed house on Saturday; full of family and friends to honor this year’s appointees.

Even our snacks were feeling festive!

I couldn’t be more thankful for the amazing students who are stepping forward to become leaders of our armed forces.  Thank you for your kind words.

30th Anniversary of William C. Lee Celebration

This week I participated in a Wreath Laying Ceremony at Greenwood Ceremony in Dunn as part of the General William C. Lee Celebration 30th Anniversary. Major General William C. Lee, of Dunn, is known as the “Father of the American Airborne.”

There was a Presentation of Colors by WWII Living History.

The Viet Nam Veterans Association gave a gun salute.

The National Anthem was sung by Miss Dunn’s Outstanding Teen 2016, Savannah Culbreth.  Click here for additional photos from the ceremony.

Honoring Our Fallen

This week, I learned that we lost a close neighbor and a childhood friend of my son’s. Rae’Laurin Gates joined the Army just 6 months ago and lost her life in the tragedy at Fort Hood. This is a heartbreaking reminder of the sacrifices made by service members and their families, both abroad and during training. I will always remember her bright smile and eagerness to help others. This week a  Celebration of Life to honor Dunn native and Hometown Hero, Rae’Laurin Gates, was held at Dunn’s Veterans Park at Tyler Park.

Celebrating National Seersucker Day

I shared a high five with a black lab named “Ali” in honor of National Seersucker Day! My blazer is a pink seersucker.
