Congressman G. K. Butterfield (NC-01) Monday released the following statement after learning of the death of civil rights advocate Ms. Ann Atwater:
“I was saddened to learn of the passing of Ann Atwater. While attending college at North Carolina Central University, I remember her as a powerful grassroots advocate who was a leader in the fight to end poverty in Durham. Her bold leadership forced many changes that continue today. Durham is better because of the tremendous contributions of Ann Atwater. I extend my thoughts and prayers to Ann’s family and all that were impacted by her work during this difficult time.”
