Congresswoman Renee Ellmers: Happy Independence Day!

Photo of the Week

Thank you to Miss North Carolina Jr. High, Caroline Marshall, for this lovely framed photo of the winning entry from the coloring contest she sponsored for fourth and fifth graders as part of her anti-bullying platform.

Weekly Update
North Carolina’s veteran population has grown consistently over the last four years—on average, between 7 and 8 percent a year. Knowing this trend makes it all the more pressing that we continue working to expand veteran-based healthcare facilities here in North Carolina. For this reason, I was so excited to deliver the keynote speech at the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Sanford VA Outpatient Clinic on Wednesday.

Just as the VA system has worked to make improvements within North Carolina, Congress has also made significant strides assisting our veterans; such as H.R. 4974 – the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs (MILCON) appropriations bill that just passed for the next fiscal year. There is still much progress that needs to be made in our VA system, but newly-appropriated Congressional funding, coupled with the completion of this advanced Sanford Outpatient Clinic will go a long way in providing relief to patients and families in the Second District.

Another highlight of this week was enjoying lunch at the Broad Street Deli in Dunn with Miss North Carolina Jr. High, Caroline Marshall. As you can see in the photo above, she sponsored a coloring contest for fourth and fifth graders as part of her anti-bullying platform and was kind enough to present me with a framed photo of the winning entry. Scroll down to see Caroline with some of her young fans as they posed for a picture following lunch!

I hope that you are enjoying a fun and safe Fourth of July weekend as we celebrate our country’s independence!  Please do not hesitate to reach out to my office if you need assistance.

Snapshots from the Week

It was an honor to speak at the ribbon-cutting and to tour the new VA Outpatient Clinic in Sanford on Wednesday. I especially enjoyed spending some time with the veterans in attendance!

I enjoyed talking with William Waddell (who will turn 102 today), and other veterans, at the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the VA Outpatient Clinic in Sanford.

After we enjoyed a nice lunch at the Broad Street Deli, Miss North Carolina Jr. High, Caroline Marshall, posed for a picture with some of her young fans! Caroline is a rising freshman at Triton High School in Erwin.

Earlier this week representatives from my office were able to attend the Groundbreaking Ceremony at the Asheboro Zoo with Gov. McCrory for the new Highway 64 Bypass.
