The Senate was very productive this week. We passed several major pieces of legislation that address some of the serious problems that people deal with in communities across North Carolina and around the country.
One of the most important pieces of legislation we passed is the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act. This bill, which is on the way to the President’s desk to become law, provides resources for the treatment and prevention of prescription pain killer and heroin addiction.
Opioid addiction touches far too many lives. Thousands of North Carolina families are grappling with the heartbreaking disease of addiction. I’m glad Congress could come together to pass this legislation that will save lives. Families need these treatment resources.
The Senate also passed my bill to provide dental coverage for veterans. In 2010, I fought to establish a new veterans dental care program. The VA Dental Insurance Reauthorization Act, which was passed by Congress this week, will continue the veteran dental insurance program and expand eligibility to all veterans who don’t currently have VA dental coverage.
I’m extremely proud of the Senate’s work this week. Both of these important bills are going to become laws soon that will help the people of North Carolina.
