To help customers save time and money on both local commuting as well as road trips, starting today, NC Quick Pass will offer free NC Quick Pass transponders and 60 percent off NC Quick Pass E-ZPass compatible transponders ($7.40 + tax) – and those are permanent discounts, not sale prices.
“We are excited to offer for the first time free NC Quick Pass transponders,” says Turnpike Authority Executive Director Beau Memory. “This will be a game-changer for both new customers and current bill-by-mail customers, as they can now receive 35 percent discounts on their Triangle Expressway tolls as well as convenient automatic billing.”
Customers desiring a new transponder before Labor Day weekend will need to visit the customer service center at 200 Sorrell Grove Church Road. Online, mail and phone orders will be mailed in a few business days, but will likely arrive after the holiday weekend.
The free NC Quick Pass transponder will work on the existing 18 mile Triangle Expressway in Durham and Wake counties and all future North Carolina toll roads, as well as toll facilities in Florida and Georgia where SunPass and Peach Pass are accepted. The NC Quick Pass transponder has previously cost customers $5.00.
The NC Quick Pass E-ZPass compatible transponder can also be used on dozens of toll highways and bridges across 15 additional mid-Atlantic, northeastern and midwestern states served by E-ZPass, including: Delaware; Illinois; Indiana; Kentucky; Maine; Maryland; Massachusetts; New Hampshire; New Jersey; New York; Ohio; Pennsylvania; Rhode Island; Virginia; and West Virginia. The NC Quick Pass E-ZPass originally cost customers $20.00.
The North Carolina Turnpike Authority has been at the leading edge of new toll collection technologies since its inception and is now implementing new technology, which reads multiple types of transponders on the Triangle Expressway. With this multi-protocol technology, the Turnpike Authority can purchase transponders at a far lower cost and is passing those savings to drivers with free and discounted NC Quick Pass transponders.
“The NC Turnpike Authority continues to raise the bar on what it means to be the most advanced turnpike in America,” said Joe Milazzo, Executive Director of the Regional Transportation Alliance, the regional business voice for transportation in the Triangle region. “This is the first time this type of tolling technology is being implemented in the nation, and existing and new customers will immediately benefit from the convenience and savings.”
You can get more information on how to sign up for a transponder and maintain your account on the NC Quick Pass website, by calling the customer service center at 1-877-7MY-PASS (1-877-769-7277), or by visiting the service center at 200 Sorrell Grove Church Road, Suite A, in Morrisville (off Airport Boulevard, Exit 284, south of I-40).
Once you set up your NC Quick Pass account and place the transponder on the inside of your windshield, you are ready to go.
