Not only is Sheetz building a new store here in Henderson, NC but rumor is they are also looking for a location for a new distribution hub to service the whole area as they expand more into North Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia. Their current distribution hub is in Pennsylvania, and boasts daily shipments from Pennsylvania to each store, including those here in North Carolina. Transportation savings justify seeking a 200,000 square foot facility in our state that would bring 200 jobs to the chosen area. Source – News & Observer
Think Vance County has a shot at landing that gig? What sort of incentives would the city and or county be able to offer?
People need jobs! We have water, interstate highway access nearby, housing available.
We have so much to offer I’m sure they will be beating the doors down to build here. When they close up the doors of the new Sheetz because of incompetent help I’m sure they will really want to be here then.
Probably the only Sheetz in the USA that will have roaming armed security guards on site. This is a safe place to live you know. Just read the stats, they will tell you.
Let’s see….
1) high crime
2)high taxes
3)failing infrstructure
4)incompetent leadership(town council, county commissioners, school board)
5)high drop out rate
6)unqualified work force due to drugs
7)no one interested in wanting to recrut them here
8)etc, etc, etc
Sure they will want to come here
And, One Voice, with the high dropout rate, and the outward migration of people the next generation of leaders is sure to be stellar!
Oh and I forgot to add to the list:
9) this county is too poor to put together an incintive package for any company to locate here.
Maybe if we can all post enough criticism of our city and county on the internet, we can prevent economic development from looking our way. Wouldn’t that make everyone happy???
“We have met the enemy, and he is us!” – Walt Kelly
Do the math, lots of Section 8 housing + lots of welfare recepients = a dying Henderson.
All of the ‘optimistic’ posters are going to wake up one day and find themselves in a very, very bad way. The ‘criticism’ is aimed at motivating the ones who care to do something before it is too late. The city and the county can not pay its bills with Section 8.
Bubba, after reading your post, it sounds like the truth should be hidden . Tell me one thing that I posted above that is not true, and I’ll apologize and rescend the statement. It is time to stop this ‘feel good and pretend that everything is alright’ attitude. This county and it’s leaders are pathetic and I am sick of it. I am tired of Vance county being the best at being the worst at everything while all of this is burdened on the backs of the tax payers; which is mine and everyone else who PAYS taxes.
Thaks for getting my blood pressure up this morning.
Bubba…do you think that companies base their decision to come here or not on a blog?
don’t you think they do research on stats?
all the stats of any location, including Vance County/Henderson, and surrounding areas are easily available.
and unfortunately, Henderson/Vance County is near the bottom on everything…except for crime.
