Land Planning develops Land Use Plan recruiting list

Working from a list of nominees for the Land Use Plan Steering Committee, the Land Planning & Development Committee developed a ranked list of Hendersonians it would like to serve in developing the Land Use Plan.

City and Council employees were eliminated from the running due to potential conflicts of interest. Elected officials were limited to one voting member in the “Elected Officials” category, but some were slated as ad hoc members who would advise the Committee but would not vote during its proceedings.

Some citizens were nominated more than once. This was taken into account during the nomination process.

Except in the case of the Extra-Territorial Jurisdiction category, nominees who did not reside within the city limits of Henderson were eliminated from the running.

In most cases, alternates were selected because it was unknown to Committee members if the first choice would be able or willing to serve.

Although the original plan for the Committee was for fifteen members, sixteen categories appeared on the list. City Attorney John Zollicoffer was added as a seventeenth member because of his expertise and long experience in City affairs. His designation was facetiously made that of “guru”.

The number of members on the Committee is flexible, according to Planning and Community Development Director Erris Dunston. Her interest was in keeping the number of members to “around fifteen” to facilitate work sessions.

Land Planning & Development Chair Bobby Gupton was given the responsibility of contacting potential members and requesting their service from the final recruitment list:
