During the meeting of the Vance County Board of Commissioners on this past Monday evening, Vance County Schools Maintenance Director Claiborne Woods distributed this video outlining the district’s present and future school renovation and construction needs.
House to be removed from new schools site
In a six-to-one vote, the Vance County Board of Commissioners voted to accept a bid to remove a house from the site where a proposed elementary school and middle school are to be built.

Congressman G. K. Butterfield made the following statement on President Bush’s proposed Fiscal Year 2009 federal budget: “President Bush has again presented a troubling budget that fails to consider the needs of seniors, veterans and working families. President Bush wants to cut health care for seniors and working families, raise health care costs for veterans and slash energy assistance.
County honors first “Community Heroes”
Members of the Mt. Zion United Church of Christ Outreach Ministry Clothing Closet receive Community Heroes award. The Vance County Board of Commissioners, working in conjunction with the Vance County Appearance Commission, have begun a campaign to take note of people in the county “who care about their neighbors and make Vance County a great place to live, work, and play”.

County attorney “Stubbs” Hight dies
This from a long-time reader: “[Hight was] a true local hero that gave 110 percent. He was a true character and a gentle soul that put up with the antics of large and small citizens. My social standing was far away from his, but he was kind to me and my family when I needed it the most.” We couldn’t have said it any better.
