But this semester, they branched out into a new field when they constructed the set for the most recent VGCC Dinner Theater production. For the first time, the Carpentry department was involved in bringing a play to life, as they built from scratch a representation of a country church in 1938, the setting of the …

Tuesday Open Line
For centuries, the month of June has been the most popular choice for weddings. One of the purported reasons was that some hundreds of years ago, this time was just after May’s annual bath, so the happy couple and the guests were about as clean as could be hoped. With the ensuing advances in plumbing and overall hygiene, dressy weddings are readily staged year-round, from simple civil ceremonies and backyard or back-to-nature vows, to elaborate church functions. Each year, there …

Congresswoman Renee Ellmers: Supporting Transparency & Accountability in Trade Agreements
Video of the Week: I was on the House floor until 1:30 am Thursday morning continuing the fight for the 440th Airlift Wing. I proposed an amendment to the Department of Defense Appropriations’ Act which would have prohibited the Air Force from carrying out deactivation of the Wing– it also would have put an end to the Air Force prematurely hollowing out the 440th Airlift Wing before our work here in Congress is done. The Air Force needs to provide …

Michael Bobbitt: Notes From The Peanut Gallery (City Council June 8th, 2015)
The City Council met Monday night for more than two and half hours. Most of the time was spent in two long public hearings of the four scheduled. Of the four public hearings three were specific to ground based industrial scale solar collectors colloquially called solar farms. (Solar farm is incorrect term. To be a farm traditionally has meant to grow or raise a reproducible crop or livestock. What reproduction can be credited to metal or glass?) The one non-solar …
