Malayia Glover, a junior at Southern Vance High School, has been selected to attend the Institute for Future Agriculture Leaders (IFAL) at N.C. A&T State University in Greensboro, June 21-26. The IFAL, which also is held at the same time on the campus of N.C. Scammers pulling off the Grandparent scam have found a new way to get their money. A Charlotte-area senior recently reported paying $26,000 to grandparent scammers using Apple iTunes gift cards, supposedly to bail a grandchild out of jail on DWI charges. At the scammer’s direction, the grandparent purchased 52 Apple iTunes gift cards over three days, each card loaded with $500. The scammer, still masquerading as the grandchild, got the grandparent to read off the numbers on the back of …

Noted alumnus to speak at VGCC Graduation
Vance-Granville Community College will welcome back an alumnus, Dr. Maurice Godwin, to serve as the principal commencement speaker for graduation exercises on Friday, May 15. He is the first graduate of the college to address students receiving their curriculum degrees and diplomas, just as he received his Criminal Justice Technology degree 30 years ago. Henderson Police Department Arrest 2 for Narcotics
On Tuesday, May 5, 2015, members of the Henderson Police Department in conjunction with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation arrested two individuals in the Henderson community for possession of narcotics. Xerxus Rashad Belvin, 36, 1008 Shirley Drive, Henderson was found to be in possession of 50.8 grams of methamphetamine commonly known as “Molly.” Belvin was charged with one count of trafficking methamphetamine by transportation, and one count of trafficking methamphetamine by possession.
