A veteran of the criminal justice and education fields recently became the new leader for Vance-Granville Community College’s programs that train both beginning and experienced law enforcement officers. Heads shaved, thousands raised for cancer research at VGCC St. Baldrick’s event
Vance-Granville Community College’s South Campus hosted a St. Baldrick’s “Head-Shaving” event on March 28, raising $2,821 for children’s cancer research. Donations were made to sponsor 11 people whose heads were shaved in the Cosmetology lab on the campus. The event was organized by VGCC Human Services Technology program head/instructor Tracy Wallace of Kittrell, who became involved with the St. Baldrick’s Foundation because of his 11-year-old son, Tyler, who was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2010. Bank Employee Arrested for Identity Theft
On May 1, 2015 Reginald Emmett Hicks of 96 Frank Sneed Road Kittrell, North Carolina was arrested and charged with five counts of identity theft and five counts of obtaining property by false pretenses. The alleged crimes occurred while Mr. Hicks was employed with Union Bank and Trust in Henderson. Mr. Hicks, a bank advisor, allegedly used various members’ account information to make a purchase and obtained electronic funds through PayPal. The incidents occurred between December 2014 and January 2015. …
Butterfield Introduces Bill to Take Recalled Rental Cars Off the Road
WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Congressman G. K. Butterfield (D-NC) introduced H.R. 2198, the Raechel and Jacqueline Houck Safe Rental Car Act of 2015 that would prohibit rental car companies from renting or selling vehicles subject to a recall. Butterfield joined Reps. Lois Capps (D-CA), Walter Jones (R-NC), and Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) in introducing this bipartisan bill. Southern Vance High School officials held the induction of new members of the school’s chapter of the National Beta Club in the gymnasium on April 28. Parents, family members and friends attended the event.
