VGCC to hold 31st Benefit Golf Tournament on May 5, 2015
Vance-Granville Community College’s 31st Annual Endowment Fund Golf Tournament, presented by Union Bank, will be held at the Henderson Country Club on Tuesday, May 5, 2015. All event proceeds support the mission of the college, the Endowment Fund and student scholarships. With the support of numerous golfers and sponsors, the annual event has raised more than $550,000 since its inception in 1985. The 2014 tournament alone generated a record-breaking $51,000. New VGCC Scholarship represents Legacy of Local Club
A new scholarship endowed at Vance-Granville Community College will serve as a lasting tribute to the work of a local service organization. The Oxford Lodge (No. 103) of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, now inactive, served the Granville County area for many years. Now, funds donated and collected by club members over the years will create the “Oxford Lodge, No. 103, I.O.O.F. Ashe County High School English teacher Keana Triplett today was named the 2015 Burroughs Wellcome Fund North Carolina Teacher of the Year. The Ashe County Public Schools’ teacher succeeds James E. Ford, a World History teacher at Garinger High School (Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools). VGCC holds Summer Term New Student Orientation sessions
The Summer 2015 term at Vance-Granville Community College begins Tuesday, May 26, and orientation sessions for new students have already begun. Attending an orientation session is required for all new students enrolling in any of the college’s curriculum programs, and for students who are returning to VGCC after being away for three or more years. Students must also meet with an advisor or academic/career coach before registering for classes. To attend an orientation session, a student must sign up in …
Vance-Granville Community Band presents free Spring Concert
The Vance-Granville Community Band is preparing to perform its annual spring concert on Thursday, April 16, at 7 p.m. in the Civic Center on VGCC’s Main Campus in Vance County. Admission is free and the public is invited. The title of this year’s concert is “Music From Around the World,” according to Carl Cantaluppi of Butner, clarinet player and band librarian. Vance County Schools – Governor’s School Participant
Annabelle Webb, a junior at Northern Vance High School, has been selected to attend the prestigious Governor’s School of North Carolina this summer. She will attend the six-week residential program on the campus of Salem College in Winston-Salem. Her major focus of study will be social science. Her participation in Governor’s School will begin the latter part of June and extend through July. Vance County Schools – Biodiesel 4 Schools Program
Vance County Schools announces a new partnership with the North Carolina based Biodiesel 4 Schools program in an effort to collect used cooking oil from Vance County area restaurants and grocery stores. This is Vance County School’s first partnership specifically designed to create a local, sustainable, agriculturally-based, bio-energy source. This partnership represents the 10th public school system in North Carolina to sign on with the Biodiesel 4 Schools program since the summer of 2012. Union Bank honors founders with new VGCC Scholarship
Oxford-based Union Bank has established a new Vance-Granville Community College scholarship to pay tribute to the business and community leaders who founded the bank. The “Union Bank & Trust Founding Directors Academic Achievement Award” will be presented to a VGCC student for the first time in 2016. This is the second scholarship created by the bank, following the Union Bank/Stanley H. Fox Presidential Merit Award scholarship, which was endowed in 2014. VGCC offers weekend Motorcycle Safety program
Vance-Granville Community College has announced upcoming spring and summer dates for the Motorcycle Safety program, which is offered on weekends at the college’s Main Campus in Vance County. The 22-hour motorcycle safety course will be offered over three consecutive days (Friday through Sunday) on these dates: April 17-19, May 1-3, May 22-24, June 5-7, June 19-21, July 10-12, July 17-19 and Aug. 7-9. VGCC names 346 students to President’s and Dean’s Lists
Vance-Granville Community College has announced that 159 students earned President’s List and 187 students earned Dean’s List academic honors for the fall 2014 semester. This is the first semester that VGCC has published a President’s List, which recognizes students who achieved a perfect 4.0 grade-point average (GPA) while carrying a “full load” (of at least 12 credit hours) in 100-level or higher courses leading to a diploma or degree.
