Henderson Middle School School Nurse Donates Knitted Items
Becky Burns, the school nurse for Henderson Middle School, has expanded her generosity to help children by donating knitted caps and booties she has made for small children taken in with their mothers by the women’s shelter at Lifeline Outreach Inc. on Raleigh Road in Henderson. Burns, shown above with some of the knitted items, took the remaining donations to Lifeline Outreach on March 3. Vance County Schools’ Make-Up Days
The Vance County Board of Education Monday night approved revisions to the 2014-2015 school year calendar for Vance County Schools in order to make up student days missed due to snow in February. School Staff Members Show Support With Breast Cancer Awareness T-Shirts

Vance County Early College High School Application Process Opens
The application process for rising ninth graders to apply to the Vance County Early College High School is now open. Applications are available online through the Vance County Schools’ website at www.vcs.k12.nc.us or through the guidance counselors at the middle schools. Completed applications are due March 25. State Dropout Rate Continues Record Low Trend; Two Districts Report Zero Dropouts
Once again, the dropout rate for North Carolina public schools hit a record low; and for the first time, two school districts – Hyde and Tyrrell – reported zero dropouts according to the 2013-14 Consolidated Data Report today presented to State Board of Education members. Last school year, 2.28 percent of high school students dropped out of school, which represents a 6.9 percent decrease from the previous year’s record low of 2.45 percent. VGCC Paralegal program receives State Bar recognition, will hold information session
The Paralegal Technology program at Vance-Granville Community College was recently designated as a “Qualified Paralegal Studies Program” by the North Carolina State Bar. The State Bar’s Board of Paralegal Certification approved the VGCC program for this recognition at a meeting in February, but the status is considered to be retroactively effective from Dec. 18, 2014. The qualification lasts for five years, according to Joy C. Belk, the board’s assistant director. The State Bar is the agency responsible for regulating the …

Vance-Granville Community College has named student Geoffrey Arnott of Oxford as its recipient of the North Carolina Community College System’s Academic Excellence Award for 2015. One student from each of the 58 colleges in the state system is honored with the award each year. Arnott will be officially recognized at Commencement in May, when he is also scheduled to graduate with an Associate in Science degree. Aycock Elementary School Plans Yard Sale
Aycock Elementary School is planning a yard sale on the front lawn of the school from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, with proceeds benefitting programs and services in the school. The public is invited to attend. Aycock Elementary is located at 305 Carey Chapel Road in the southeastern part of Vance County.
