Franklin-Vance-Warren Opportunity, Inc.’s Women’s Economic Equity Council and the Vance-Granville Community College Small Business Center are partnering to host an event that salutes women who are entrepreneurs and leaders in the community. Vance-Granville Community College will hold a series of sessions offering information for high school students and their parents on the “Career and College Promise” (CCP) program. VGCC Students attend Male Mentoring Conference
Students and staff members involved in Vance-Granville Community College’s male mentoring program recently attended the 2014 statewide Minority Male Mentoring Conference. The conference, organized by the North Carolina Community College System in partnership with the University of North Carolina system, was held in March at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel in Durham. VGCC Students Awarded Golden LEAF Scholarships
Thirteen students from Vance-Granville Community College recently received scholarships through the Golden LEAF Scholars program for the North Carolina Community College System. The scholarship program, designed to help North Carolinians attend the state’s community colleges, is funded through a $750,000 grant from the Golden LEAF Foundation. The scholarship can be used for tuition, books, fees, supplies, transportation and childcare related to attending classes during the 2013-14 academic year, and industry-recognized credential testing expenses that address skill gaps upon course completion. …
Congressman Butterfield to speak at VGCC Graduation
U.S. Representative G. K. Butterfield will be the principal commencement speaker for Vance-Granville Community College’s graduation exercises on Friday, May 16. Mooresville Middle School Principal Carrie Tulbert today was named the 2014 Wells Fargo North Carolina Principal of the Year during a luncheon ceremony held in Cary. State Legislator to speak at VGCC Basic Skills Commencement
Vance-Granville Community College will hold commencement exercises dedicated exclusively to new graduates of Adult Basic Skills programs on Thursday, May 8. Students created projects to address various environmental issues as Vance-Granville Community College held Earth Day festivals on April 22 on the college’s Main Campus in Vance County, South Campus in Granville County, and the Franklin County Campus. VGCC Students inducted into Honor Society
Vance-Granville Community College recognized 90 students who were inducted into Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for students of two-year colleges, on April 15 in the Civic Center on the college’s Main Campus. VGCC students honored with induction into Phi Theta Kappa must have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.5 (3.75 for part-time students) in associate degree curriculum programs and have completed at least 12 credit hours toward their degrees. A pair of students in the Culinary Arts program at Vance-Granville Community College recently came away from a regional cooking competition with a victory. Shiona MacLean and Matthew Hosier, both of Oxford, won first place at an American Culinary Federation “Mystery Box” Hot Food competition held on April 1 as part of the annual Wake Technical Community College Culinary Arts Showcase. Vance-Granville Community College recently brought together fire department officials from throughout the region to receive training on the state’s new fire rating schedule and on what they can do to reduce local residents’ insurance costs.
